istoric
St. Augustine is the city closest to World Golf Village. Having been settled
by
the Spanish some four-hundred-plus years ago, it holds the honor of being
the oldest city in America. Nowhere does its storied history come to life
more than in the St. George Street district, fronting Matanzas Bay and
overlooking the famous Bridge
of Lions. There's shopping, exquisite dining and more. Other notable facets
of life in St. Augustine include the fact that beach goers are permitted
to drive and park along the beautiful shores of the Atlantic. Plus, Ponte
Vedra, home of the Tournament Players Club, the PGA TOUR and additional
pristine beaches, is just a short drive up the road.
Go a little farther up the road and you come upon Jacksonville, geographically
the largest city in the United States. Scores of major businesses have
made Jacksonville their home while numerous others are relocating there
all the time. But more than being the center of commerce for Northeast
Florida, it is also a wonderful place to play - especially if you play
golf. Jacksonville offers 47 championship caliber courses, 26 private
and 21 public. And if you'd rather watch sports than play, there's Alltel
stadium, where one can witness Bears battling Jaguars, or the occasional
Bulldog taking on a Gator. Of course, Jacksonville is also a thriving
cultural center with the presence of the Florida Ballet, the Florida
Theater and the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
Drive southwest for a couple of hours and you'll find yourself in
Orlando where entertainment opportunities abound. Walt Disney World,
Universal Studios, Sea World and more make Orlando a travel mecca the
world over. But Orlando is also a serious center of business for central
Florida.
